The stars shimmered in the dark velvety sky. Peter was on the roof again, watching satellites and planes work their way across the night sky. He rubbed his hand across the sore, open scab in the back of his head, trying to work the pain out. He stayed up there for the rest of the night, even though he wasn't supposed to.
4:44am
Peter's feet kept getting closer to the edge of the roof. He lay asleep on his side, but he was slipping.
5:23am
"Matt, Anton, have you seen Peter? I have to check on his head," Claire asked, coming into the upstairs study.
"Not this morning. He must be on the roof again. That's where Lindsay found him yesterday morning," Matt told her.
Claire said nothing, just gaped at the window. Anton looked where she was looking, wondering what had caught her attention. "Oh God??"
Claire and Anton rushed out of the room and down the hall. Before following, Matt looked out the window for the first time. There he saw Peter's knees and feet hanging over the edge of the roof. |
